History 1936
Jacob Geis' film DIE ERBSCHAFT with Valentin/Karlstadt in the leading roles is banned due to "tendencies of poverty".
Franz Seitz makes IA IN OBERBAYERN. "In 1936, the Bavaria Filmkunst GmbH (note by the editors: at this time, the company was called Bavaria Film AG) went bankrupt. Three people put a few decorations which had remained from earlier films together and wondered whether they could make a film from this. They pawned the entire inventory and scratched about for some money. In a few nights, they wrote a screenplay, the finished pages of which were filmed on the following morning. The raw film and copies were gained on credit. Their act of desperation became a great success and made 15 million Marks. The Bavaria was rescued. The film was called IA IN OBERBAYERN“ (Georg Kahn-Ackermann, 1951).
