SCHTONK has its film premiere in four Munich cinemas. The highlight of the numerous international awards is the Oscar nomination as "Best foreign film". After completion of the outside sets for MARIENHOF, the shooting for the long-term ARD series starts. Production is done every day at up to three different locations with two teams. The entire material is processed by means of the AVID cutting computer for the first time. At the end of April, the BAYERISCHE FILMZENTRUM GEISELGASTEIG opens. Director Joseph Vilsmaier starts the work on the co-production STALINGRAD in Poland. The leading roles are played by Jochen Nickel, Sebastian Rudolph, Dominique Horwitz, Sylvester Groth and Thomas Kretschmann. Karl Baumgartner (Charly Bum Bum) is responsible for the special effects. Vilsmaier is nearly killed in a car accident. Shooting has to be interrupted, the tank battle moved to Finland due to a lack of snow. From autumn on, Milan Bor starts the sound mixing. Hans Noever films the four-part television series DAS SAHARA-PROJEKT for the ZDF. In June, the Prime Minister of the State of North Rhine Westphalia, Johannes Rau, opens the BavariaFilmPark in Bottrop-Kirchhellen. GOTTSCHALK produces every day in Hall 3 of Bavaria Film for RTL. 13 episodes of the satirical early evening series KURHOTEL SONNENSCHEIN are produced for the WWF. With DAS WAR DER WILDE OSTEN, Reinhard Klooss continues the successful journey of the Struutz family from Dresden in the cinemas.
