STALINGRAD is given its world premiere on January 21. Alongside the success in Germany, Vilsmaier's anti-war film also captivates millions of viewers abroad. Dr. Harald Junge leaves the management of Bavaria Film on March 31. His successor as commercial managing director is Dr. Dieter Frank. The new managing director of the Bavaria copying factory is Hans Strebel. Sound studio A becomes Europe's first digital mixing studio following its modernisation. The work on the science fiction comedy DIE STURZFLIEGER based on a screenplay by Matthias Seelig starts. Alongside Götz George, Anja Kling and Ingo Naujoks are in front of the camera. Peter F. Bringmann is the director, Günter Rohrbach the producer. Bavaria Film increases its production volume. More than 110 hours of television programmes are produced in the Bavaria film city, amongst them the 100th episode of DER FAHNDER. Joseph Vilsmaier films Kästner's classic "Das doppelte Lottchen“ with the title CHARLIE & LOUISE. From more than 1,000 pairs of twins, he selects Fritzi and Floriane Eichhorn from Berlin. The film parents are played by Corinna Harfouch and Heiner Lauterbach. Shooting starts in Scotland. The pilot film GEGEN DEN WIND is produced by order of the WWF. The FTA markets the costume and equipment section of the WDR in Cologne. In August, the "FTA Babelsberg GmbH“ is founded. The company is to utilise the Defa equipment under the management of the FTA. Dominik Graf starts the shooting of his new thriller DIE SIEGER. In the 12 million project, Herbert Knaup, Hansa Czypionka, Katja Flint, Heinz Hoenig, Heinrich Schafmeister, Michael Breitsprecher and Hannes Jaenicke are in front of the camera. The screenplay is by Günter Schütter, the producer is Günter Rohrbach. In December, the site of the BavariaFilmPark, which proved to be an economic flop, is sold to Warner Brothers. A contract is concluded with the private television company RTL2 with the support of the Bavarian State Government, according to which the company moves from Cologne to the Bavaria film city.
